Unified Through Basketball project

Unified Through Basketball (UTB) is an EU-funded project that promotes equality through sport and physical activity in Finland and internationally.

The project will be implemented by organising various events and activities before and during EuroBasket 2025 in the host city of Tampere and across Finland. The project's main theme is social inclusion, and the activities will reach out to minorities and those at high risk of exclusion and raise awareness of inclusion issues on a broad scale.

Social inclusion means equal opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity in different roles. The conditions and practices that enable participation therefore need to be continuously developed. It is important that diversity is seen as an asset and that a sense of belonging and positive community spirit is strengthened.

Project activities include seminars and webinars for coaches and other sports personnel focusing on inclusive coaching and social inclusion in sport. Other activities include a Nordic wheelchair basketball tournament, an international unified basketball camp, low-threshold activities in three cities, such as 3x3 basketball, and local fan events during the EuroBasket 2025 tournament across Finland. In addition, the project will implement an inclusive volunteering programme to involve minorities and people at high risk of exclusion in volunteering activities.

At Basketball Finland, the United Through Basketball project will be implemented by a dedicated team together with a number of partners. Most of the activities will be carried out in cooperation with local basketball clubs, which will help to spread the impact and various benefits of the project as widely as possible.
